This Privacy Policy describes how People vs Algorithms, LLC (”PvA,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects information across our properties, including our newsletter and podcast at peoplevsalgorithms.com and our SMS-based note-taking service, PvA Field Notes, at pvanotes.com.

Information we collect

• Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter or sign in to a related service.

• Name — when you provide it for newsletter personalization or Field Notes account display.

• Mobile phone number — only if you opt in to PvA Field Notes (SMS service).

• Message content — text, photos, and links you submit via Field Notes.

• Basic activity data — open and click events on newsletter emails, message timestamps in Field Notes, sign-in times.

How we use your information

We use the information above solely to operate our services: delivering the newsletter, distributing the podcast, and operating PvA Field Notes (routing inbound texts to the feed, sending confirmations and sign-in links, periodic digests, authentication via magic links). We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell or rent it to third parties.

Sharing with third parties

We share information only with the service providers required to operate our properties: Substack (newsletter and web hosting at peoplevsalgorithms.com), Twilio, Inc. (SMS gateway for Field Notes), mobile carriers, our hosting and email providers (Resend, Railway). Information collected from you is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

SMS program (PvA Field Notes) — required carrier disclosures

If you opt in to PvA Field Notes:

• Message frequency varies based on your activity and that of other members.

• Message and data rates may apply from your wireless carrier.

• You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. You will receive a single unsubscribe confirmation.

• For help, reply HELP or email troy@peoplevsalgorithms.com.

• We support the major US wireless carriers. PvA is not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages.

Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account or subscription is active. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us at the email below.

Children’s privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Security

We use commercially reasonable safeguards. We limit access to your data to personnel and service providers who need it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the affected service.
