People vs Algorithms is a newsletter about media and cultural transformation.

It is written by Troy Young, an accomplished media executive, advisor, investor and entrepreneur.

Troy is former global President of Hearst Magazines, where he spent seven plus years transforming a legacy media company and one of the largest publishers in the world into a modern omni-channel media force. He has led fast-growing start ups, launched and run digital ad agencies.

His accomplishments in media and advertising have been recognized widely including being named Media Executive of the year by Adweek. He was chairman of the IAB and served on the board of the United Way of New York.

Troy was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, graduated high school at St. Michael's University School in Victoria, British Columbia. He has a business degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He lives with his family in New York City.

Troy is currently advising a number of media companies and private equity firms.
